Encounter: Freeze Bees

Honey has a cool minty burn.
So, making monsters with unusual mechanics that I don't use enough in my games, and I started thing cyclical and fatigue damage, then I thought, "why not both?" So, some kinda icy venom was where that leads me to, and that leads to bees. I am working on stronger monsters than my previous batch, so again, like yesterday, let's shoot for around 60.

Design

So, when we think of ice and bees, I think of the following traits:
  • Flying
  • Impaling
  • Brittle
  • Agile
  • Homogeneous
  • Hard
  • Weak to fire
So, wow, that's the makings of a pretty tough enemy, with lots of pros, and not a lot of cons. I mean, weak to fire is something, and brittle is not nothing, but, d*ng. Then throwing some insane far-out damage on top of all of this. Oh well! Let's do our d*rndest to make it work!

Ok, so I started with some modest damage, probably too modest. I decided to make this an intelligent monster rather than an animal, thinking almost demon, so I gave it a lot of intelligence, and thus, will.
It might be boring, but I think I want to buff this guy out with some more damage, heck, why not some fatigue as well? Let's boost the normal attack to 2d and the follow up to 1d every ten seconds. I assume that means 1.5d of damage every 15 seconds.

Let's also add some High Pain Threshold, and Homogeneous. Need to subtract a point of FP (no great loss) to add Combat Reflexes.

Cool, that's interestingly similar numerically to yesterday's Beelzebuddy but the encounter feels very unique.
Let's put it together now.
ST: 18HP: 10Speed: 6
DX: 13Will: 14Move: G6A12
IQ: 10Per: 10
HT: 10FP: 12SM: +0
Dodge: 10Parry: 11(2x)DR: 5
Sting (15): Reach C, 2d Impaling, Follow Up Freezing Venom
Claws (15): Reach C, 1d+2 cutting
Stinger Shot (15): Acc 3, Range 15/30, 2d Impaling, Follow Up Freezing Venom
Freezing Venom (HT-4): Blood Agent, Cyclic FP damage, every cycle does 1d FP (Freezing Hazard) damage. This lasts for 6 cycles (1 minute) or until first aid for extreme cold is administered.
Traits: Claws, Sharp; Combat Reflexes; Discriminatory Smell; Doesn't Eat; Doesn't Drink; Extra Legs (Two; Cannot Kick); Flight (Air Move 12; Winged); Fragile (Brittle); High Pain Threshold; Injury Tolerance (Homogeneous); Striker, Impaling (Stinger); Vulnerability (Fire, 2x)
Skills: Aerobatics-14, Brawling-15, Filch-15, Innate Attack (Projectile)-15, Stealth-15
Class: Demon
Notes:
They will use Aerobatics to dodge.
Freezing Venom can be extracted as per the rules of extracting all other types of venom. When extracting the poison, one dose is extracted for every point of margin of success against the lowest of poisons or surgery, one may use the higher as a complementary skill. This poison works as Monster Drool, but does FP damage instead of HP damage and is worth $200 each.

Fluff

Freeze Bees are from one of the colder oblongs of H*ck. They look like and maybe act like giant bees, but they are fully intelligent, sapient, and don't necessarily ascribe to a hive intelligence. They inhabit cold regions of the world and personify bitter sentiments. When sentient beings near their habitats sleep, they cross-pollinate bitter feelings as they flutter from one to another, and later come back to supp on the sweet nectar of the fruits of their insidious labors. They do not have to fight often, and for the normal people they victimize, it would be a fool's bet, but it is said that as the scriptures instruct that returning kindness for evil is like heaping coals on the heads of your enemies, so too do these bees feel the searing heat of gracious kindness in the absurd and ghastly face of spite and malice, and soon do depart a village that produces no fruit, but only in order to torment another.
Seeing a nest is enough to drive a person mad from depression [could be handled as a fright check, but flavored as overbearing anguish instead of terror.]

Other Thoughts

I was thinking a disastrously powerful suicide attack might be interesting, maybe plunging the stinger into a body does 6d FP damage every 10 seconds for a minute with certain types of treatment potentially reducing that amount. Body parts would be interesting to use in a lot of fire college alchemy or magic enchantments, I would think. I enjoy the thought of demons that take the form of animals.
