His name is a portmanteau. Bul as in a bull, because he tackles and rams, sore because he leaves his enemies bruised. |
Leech Seed
This is an attack where bulbasaur drains health from the enemy. This is basically a modified version of the Leech advantage.
Leech Seed
Keywords: Obvious, missile
Full Cost: 76.25 points for level 1, 12.2 points/additional level.
Casting Roll: Innate Attack to land, HT to absorb.
Range: 10/100 yards
Duration: 20 seconds
The "caster" plants a seed in the enemy. Once the attack takes place using innate attack, each turn roll a contest of HT (talent helps) with success stealing one hit point. Maximum recommended level is 2, but it is expensive enough that someone might think twice before using more.
Statistics: Leech 1 (HT; Sorcery, -15%; Accelerated Healing, +25%; Based on Different Attribute, Self and Other, HT, +40%; Independant, +40%; Malediction 2, +150%; Maximum Duration, 20 Seconds, -75%; Ranged, +40%) [77]

Vine Whip
In pokemon, this would be an attack, but in GURPS, it might better be represented as an Extra appendage. This appendage has flexible for +50% and several levels of Long. 4 levels for an approximately 9 foot long whip with a reach of 3. This is 55 points.
Extra Arm (Extra-Flexible, +50%; Long, SM+4, +400%) [55]
Poison Powder
This is a sprinkling that causes a cyclic attack that lasts for a bit, let's say 10 seconds, 1 second each, even though originally it was indefinite. It is a skin agent, and easy to resist.
Poison Powder
Keywords: Obvious, missile
Full Cost: 13 points
Casting Roll: None, use Innate Attack to aim.
Range: 10 yards
Duration: 10 seconds
Unless the target is sealed, or can get out of the area, they are poisoned. The "caster" scatters spores in a 10 yard cone that grows out to 5 yards wide at the end. This cloud lasts for 10 seconds and can be dispersed by the wind. If someone finds themselves in the cloud, they are poisoned for 10 seconds unless they can resist with an HT roll. Talent penalizes this roll.
Statistics: Toxic Attack 1 HP (Sorcery, -15%; Cone, 5 yards wide, +100%; Contact Agent, +150%; Cyclic, 1 second cycle, 10 cycles, +900%; Increased 1/2d, 10x, +15%; Persistent, +40%; Reduced Range, 1/10, -30%; Resistable, HT, -35%) [13]

Razor Leaf
This is a rapid fire shot of leaves spreading over a large area, this is drastically different from the original.
Razor Leaf
Keywords: Obvious, leveled, missile
Full Cost: 22.4 points/level
Casting Roll: None, use Innate Attack to aim.
Range: 10 yards
Duration: Instant
The "caster" launches a ridiculous amount of leaves at everyone in the area in a cloud of sharpened blades. Roll to attack everyone in the 10x5 cone, remembering the +5 to hit, and any skill bonuses from talent. 30 projectiles may hit each target in range.
Statistics: Cutting Attack 1 (Sorcery, -15%; Cone, 5 yards wide, +100% Increased 1/2d, 10x, +15%; Rapid Fire, 30 Leaves, +150% Reduced Range, 1/10, -30%) [23]

Growth
Your attack goes up... Yup.
Growth
Keywords: leveled
Full Cost: 50 points for level 1, 4.5 points per additional level.
Casting Roll: None, use Innate Attack to aim.
Range: 10 yards
Duration: Instant
The "caster" strengthens itself, and gets more Striking ST. Technically, this modified version can work on anyone the "caster" can touch.
Statistics: Affliction (Sorcery, -15%; Advantage, Striking ST (Magical, -10%), +45%; Cumulative, +400%; Fixed Duration, 3 Minutes; Melee Attack, Reach C, -30%) [50]

Sleep Powder
You spray a cloud of sleepy spores that can put enemies to sleep.
Sleep Powder
Keywords: Obvious, missile
Full Cost: 51 points/level
Casting Roll: None, use Innate Attack to aim.
Range: 10 yards
Duration: 10 seconds for the cloud, 3 minutes of sleep
Spray a sleepy spore cloud that stays around for 10 seconds, while in it, everyone rolls against HT (unless sealed). Failure means sleep for 3 minutes. Additional levels add a penalty to the roll.
Statistics: Affliction (HT; Sorcery, -15%; Cone, 5 yards wide, +100%; Contact Agent, +150%; Fixed Duration, 3 minutes, +0%; Incapacitation, Sleep, +150%; Increased 1/2d, 10x, +15%; Persistent, +40%; Reduced Range, 1/10, -30%) [51]

Solar Beam
The most simple of all these moves? A burning attack that takes extra time.
Solar Beam
Keywords: Obvious, missile
Full Cost: 19.5 points/level
Casting Roll: None, use Innate Attack to aim.
Range: 10/100 yards
Duration: Instant
Per level, this attack does 6d burning damage. It requires 1 turn of charging up in sunlight before using.
Statistics: Burning Attack 6 (Sorcery, -15%; Accessibility, only in the sun, -10%; Takes Extra Time, 1 ready, -10%) [20]

Other Thoughts
I made an imbuement recently that I need to use to correct the moves inspired by Charmander. It seems kinda painful to base an idea on a houserule though.
This is quickly becoming my favorite "series" of yours.
ReplyDeleteDo to how crunch heavy my posts have been I haven't had time to get back to working on my pokemon post but at this rate, you'll have half of my article written for me by the time I am ready to finish it :D
Glad you like it. I'm using these as filler when I can't think of something else to write because it is easy to knock these out in under an hour, so its nice that people like them anyway.
DeleteI'm getting 80 points for Leech Seed, not sure why. I'll note that normally in Pokemon, HP draining attacks only return a portion of the damage done, so you might want to drop Accelerated Healing.
ReplyDeleteNote that Cyclic is [modifier for cycle time] x [number of cycles -1]. ('Each cycle after the first.') So that's only +900% on Poison Powder.
A 'canon' version of Razor Leaf would just be a variant of your Slash (done as an enhanced Innate/ranged attack instead of being a lasting effect). The one you did here is nice. Another alternative might be to do it as an emanation (a swirling storm of leaves around the caster).
Growth: Again, I don't know that any attribute really has a signature. Having a high ST doesn't obligate the character to look strong.... Interestingly, you could do this without the affliction (which skips doing it to others), but then it becomes all-or-nothing, as you can't use the cumulative at that point.... Also, in-game, Growth increases Special Attack, which should translate over to... talent? extra Magery? Anyway, it, oddly enough, doesn't really affect the attacks that are probably more ST based.
Other than poison, most statuses last a variable amount of time, so I think I'd drop Fixed Duration from Sleep Powder.
And Solar Beam was removed from Bulbasaur's standard move list in Gen 4, though it's still possible through TM. So, now we know what period you're used to. :)
I always enjoy your feedback.
DeleteI agree with the poison powder one.
Razor Leaf, I totally did differently, just because I thought it would be boring to do the same thing over.
Re: No Signature, that could go either way, but I'd imagine a "magic" or power source sensitive aura that someone could tell if someone was powering up... that said, it might even be appropriate.
Sorcery specifically advocates for fixed duration, even if that veers from the pokemon formula, so that's why I went with fixed duration. I have no strong opinions either way.
Yup, working off of Gen 1 movelists because it gives me a big list of novel moves, but I give it no special deference.
I'm technically most used to Gen 2, since I've been playing Crystal. But I look things up on PokemonDB, which naturally defaults to current (Gen 6), so I had to hunt around for Solar Beam a bit.
DeleteI need to figure out how I want to post my Pokemon worksheet....
