Cast
There are a lot more characters signed up, but these are the ones that were involved for the large part.

Alisa
A Paladin of a death god. Fights with a flail and shield, and has decent armor.Provided Portrait |
Isaac
An unusually youthful student of the Kabbalah, a fact hidden by his head of grey hair, Isaac Cordovero was amongst the most gifted students of the lot, displaying an affinity for the Sephirah Chokhmah to the extent of displaying talent even in the most hidden arts. However, his relative inexperience with life - not even forty years of age - had him passed over for the position of Rebbe at the Yeshiva and told to experience life to its fullest in order to gain a complete understanding of the nature of Ein Sof, as required of the greatest thaumatologists.
Brashly confident in his powers, Isaac chose to join an adventuring party, hoping to bring fame and glory to the Yeshiva and, above all, to the thaumatologist's art. He crawls dungeons, the loot secondary to his greater aspirations.

Lilli
Provided character portrait |
Covered in grey rags, only her face is left uncovered. The shadows accentuate her colorful eyes and if you look closely, maybe you can make out her brown hair which she keeps short.
Raised in a village near town she was a woman always prone to fight, preferring fist and her legs to words and diplomacy, but this was a little too unorthodox for her old-fashioned village. When she grew up, she was challenged to unarmed combat by the local captain of the guard and she lost. She had to leave home and her old life with it, but she is a strong-willed person. In her travels she found masters of combat, philosophy, and all other arts. She learned that being strong doesn't mean getting into fights with everyone. She struggled internally against the urge to give into raw anger, but years of training let her take control of it and she has since become an even more impressive martial artist. However, she still has a long road to the title of master. She will become the strongest and she will spread her knowledge and style in hopes of helping those who find themselves in the same atmosphere she endured growing up.

Perexus
A wizard versed in magic combat. [Brand new player, doing a real swell job, having a good grasp of the rules and asking all the right questions. Glad you enjoyed GURPS.]
Summary
The party decides to travel further North towards the smell of death. Lilli and Alisa take point and protect the wizards when they break down a door to discover a small hoard of zombies. Perexus uses magic to magically enshroud Alisa in fiery armor, which burns a dumb zombie that tries to bite her, causing it to fall over in the confusion. Perexus stunned another with a lightning bolt, and Lilli and Alisa finished off the others with help from a fireball charm from Isaac, that unfortunately had a pyromania inducing quirk. This leads to shenanigans that creates more rituals with more quirks, culminating with the summoning of a fire elemental. Luckily, thanks to a knowledge roll, Isaac realized that the being had a limited reach, and so he and Alisa ushered the rest of the party to safety, as the elemental assumedly burned everything inside the area.
Oh rats. |
Deterred momentarily, the party decided to go a different direction waiting for an opportunity when the elementals time in the area would expire.
The party comes upon a door inside which is the one chased off kobold from earlier and a few others. Perexus reacts by using a rain of fire which shocks them. Alisa takes advantage of the chaos and kows them all. Feeling the situation is hopeless, they surrender. Alisa has them all lined up and tied up, and questions them about the daughter of the candlestick maker, they mention she is behind a secret door. Alisa has the party leave the room and executes the prisoners.
Perexus asks for time to take a break so the mages rest up while Alisa and Lilli guard the entryway. Suddenly, maybe disturbed by the noise, a swarm of 8 rats appears. 4 attack Alisa who blocks them all with a shield easily, and 4 attack Lilli, who blocks three, but one breaks through and bites her leg, dealing a very grievous wound. She sucks it up though, and in a miraculous use of whirlwind attack, defeats almost all of the rats in one turn, save for two that scamper off frightened. Also, hitting Alisa for a small wound.
After Action Report
- Successes
- Perexus' player, who is new to GURPS had fun and exclaimed that GURPS is definitely not as challenging as memes would have you believe once you see the machinery in motion. Glad to hear that.
- Other players said the pace was a little better this week.
- I think rolling random hit locations gets more interesting results, so I might resort to that more often for "unintelligent" enemies, and maybe intelligent ones will make targeted attacks.
- Lessons Learned
- Hmmm, no big interesting problems cropped up. Speed was still slightly slow, but what can you do when everyone, myself included, are learning?

ReplyDeleteTwo thumbs up for this!
Definitely! Two more thumbs up!
DeleteAnd more use of random hit location sounds good.
Yeah, definitely one of the results I was looking for: getting new players acclimated enough that they can feel comfortable playing in other GURPS games or running one of their own.
