Sorcery: (Inspired by) Poison Mist

In-Game Art
Not feeling especially well today, so I thought I'd make a simple write up on a spell that uses a different type of mechanic than normal. Poison Mist, inspired by an ability from Dark Souls, lingers for a few seconds and has a chance of inflicting a toxic damage cyclical effect every second one stands in the range of the cloud. Let's see how that looks.

Advantage: Dark Souls Riposte

Sweet sweet damage.
In some video games, like the Dark Souls franchise, parries allow us to set up an extremely damaging riposte. I want to see how hard it might be to theoretically create an advantage that covers these mechanics. Let's check it out.

Sorcery: Firestorm

Found here.
Primal pyromancy taught by Quelana of Izalith. Erect fire pillars in vicinity.
The storm of flame is indiscriminate, and incinerates all nearby life.
Short article on a slightly unpredictable spell inspired by Dark Souls that does a lot of damage if one is lucky. Let's take a look.

Treasure: Ring Of The Evil Eye

Not that evil, I guess?
According to legend, this ring contains the spirit of the evil eye, a dark beast which assaulted Astora.
The strength of the evil eye does not waver, and HP is absorbed from fallen enemies.

Having some writer's block and reading through the Ryuutama RPG rules, so here is something from my backlog. This ring absorbs a small amount of life on every lethal blow against a target.

Ring Of The Evil Eye Enchantment (+90%): Leech 3 (Follow-Up, Cosmic, Follows up any attack, +100%; Accessibility, Attack must be lethal, -20%; Magical, -10%; Reduced Time 1, Instant, +20%) [63]
This is a 62.7 point ability that recovers one HP after every lethal attack. This is worth 41 EP. The raw material to make the ring is $700, and the enchantment is an additional $13,120 in labor. At retail, a ring like this is typically $27,640.00 in TL3. A version that can recover 3 HP would be 47 EP, and cost $32,080.00.

Sorcery: Combustion, Great Combustion, and Black Flame

Uno
Elementary pyromancy. Create powerful flame in hand. One of the most basic pyromancies. For this very reason, the flame thus created is fierce.
Like yesterday's article, this article is to knock out a large series of similar abilities at once. Each of Combustion, Great Combustion, and Black Flame (to an extent) are progressively more powerful variations on a theme. So let's calculate them out in this post.

Sorcery: Soul Arrow

The First Spell
Elementary sorcery.Fire a soul arrow.Soul arrows inflict magic damage, making them effective against iron armor, tough scales, and other physically resilient materials.
I don't have a lot of time today, so allow me to take the easy way out! Soul Arrow is a weak ability, but an easy to use projectile with a little bit of armor piercing. All together, it looks like:
Soul Arrow (+35%): Piercing Innate Attack 1 (Sorcery -15%; Armor Divisor, (2), +50%) [7]
This spell is 6.75 points. When it strikes an enemy with DR, each point of damage rolled cancels out 2 points of DR instead of 1.

Further Notes

A lot of the primary attack spells are a variation on this theme. Great Soul Arrow, Heavy Soul Arrow, Great Heavy Soul Arrow, Soul Spear, and Crystal Soul Spear. Great Soul Arrow is probably simply a level 3 [21] version of the spell; Heavy Soul Arrow is probably a level 2 [13] or 3 [19] version with Takes Extra Time, Great Heavy Soul Arrow in turn is probably a level 4 [25] or 5 [32] version with Takes Extra Time. Soul Spear is probably a level 2 [22] impaling damage version, and Crystal Soul Spear is probably a level 3 [33] or 4 [44] impaling version. There, I said it would be short, but at the same time, I wrote up 6 spells.

Sorcery/Divine Favor: Karmic Justice

Miracle of the black-haired witch Velka. Temporary autocounter vs. heavy damage. For each sin there is a punishment, and it is the task of Goddess Velka to define the sin, and mete out the punishment.

Finishing up the year with one of the other most mechanically complicated spells of Dark Souls, Karmic Justice. This spell builds up a powerful explosion passively as one accrues damage, and releases suddenly and violently, doing major damage to one's aggressors. Let's put it together below.

Sorcery: Homing Soulmass

I really really like this spell
Sorcery developed by Big Hat Logan. Fire homing soulmass. Life originates in the soul; no wonder the soulmass draws toward it. This sorcery is a window into seeker Logan's methods.
A lot of the spells and magic effects in Dark Souls are pretty straight forward because of the type of game it is: brutal combat and exploration. Subtleties like social intrigue rarely enter into the equation. That said, I decided to model the most mechanically challenging spells first, trusting that if anyone cared to know how to calculate soul arrow, it would be nearly self-evident that it is nothing but Innate Attack. Homing Soulmass on the other hand has a bunch of complicated nuances that make it a little less straightforward. Let's see if we can put that one together.

Sorcery: Power Within

In-Game Art
Pyromancy of Carmina, who harnessed the power of flame to actualize the inner-self. strength/endurance boost, but lose HP. Excessive power eats away the life-force of its caster, and like all dangerous spells, Power Within was kept secret for eons.
Power Within is a buff spell from Dark Souls considered a member of the Pyromancy class of magic. It comes with the terrifying drawback that it can very well kill you if used. Today I will model this using Sorcery.

Treasure: Crystal Ring Shield

Butterflies
Weapon born from the mystical creature of the Darkroot Garden, the Moonlight Butterfly. Imbued with a powerful crystal power, like the butterfly created by Seath the Scaleless.
Can emit crystal light rings.
This is another article on treasure, a somewhat simple item again. This is a shield from Dark Souls with very little protective ability, but the unique feature that it can launch a beam attack. Let's see how we can convert this to GURPS mechanics.

Sorcery: Tranquil Walk Of Peace

Artwork from Dark Souls
I like Dark Souls a lot. So again, I want to tackle an element of that game, magic. For this post, let's work with the Tranquil Walk Of Peace.

Artifact: Dragonslayer Spear

In-Game Art
Something from Dark Souls, a Dragonslayer Spear. This is a powerful weapon used by one of four great knights of legend. Let's tinker with putting this together.
