Encounter: Lagiacrus

Something Like this.
I'm playing a lot of Monster Hunter World, and I dunno what to write this week, so as a thought exercise, let's stat up a Lagiacrus. Using data from one of the Monster Hunter Wikis, Gulliver Mini from T-Bone's Diner, the 3e stats of a Liopleurodon from GURPS Dinosaurs, and the 3e to 4e conversion guide, let's see what happens.

Encounter: (Inspired by Castlevania's) Succubus

Just like in my animes.
So GURPS has a Succubus, and that's fine. You can find it on p.66 of GURPS Horror. But, trying to think of something love themed (or the perversion thereof) and coming up blank, I decided to stat up a monster from a game series I like. No particular CER goals, let's just see where we can go with this.

Encounter: (Inspired by) Leechmonger

Hot leeches!
Monger - a salesperson. So what we are dealing with here is a monster that sells leeches... or no? Maybe it's a metaphor. Oh well, get ye into a horrid diseased swamp and deal with it, friends!

Encounter: Rag and Bone Man (Guest Post)

Interesting Art.
Another guest post today. It's an encounter called the Rag and Bone Man. This is brought to you by (E) from the official GURPS Forum. This is a TL7 or TL8 urban horror type of monster that targets people who scorn the homeless. Let's take a look.

Encounter: (Inspired by) Adjudicator

Long tongue, fat knife, they scream
a runnin for their life-ife-ife.
I haven't written a monster in a while, so I feel like writing a monster. So here's a monster inspired by Demon's Souls.

Encounter: Indescribable Monkey

Mostly irrelevant.
A kinda play on words, despite that which is on Washizu's back is obviously a cat, we were talking about removing monkeys from one's back. This is a demonic enemy that slowly weighs down it's opponents with mental exhaustion until they are unfit to defend themselves. Let's see what we can get with that premise.

Encounter: Goblin Musketeer

I just like the picture.
So, I'm thinking of all the things I don't have in decent quantity for my players to fight, and I think ranged encounters are a bit low. I also don't have many specifically gun themed opponents as I mostly am borrowing the TL3...ish bestiaries of Dungeon Fantasy. So, I says to meself, let's make a musketeer type opponent for my TL4 campaign. My goal is 60 CER, or a slightly challenging enemy for a starting Dungeon Fantasy character. let's see how that goes.

Encounter: Freeze Bees

Honey has a cool minty burn.
So, making monsters with unusual mechanics that I don't use enough in my games, and I started thing cyclical and fatigue damage, then I thought, "why not both?" So, some kinda icy venom was where that leads me to, and that leads to bees. I am working on stronger monsters than my previous batch, so again, like yesterday, let's shoot for around 60.

Encounter: Beelzebuddy

What's cooking, good looking? ;)
I want to create something a bit terrifying, but still manageable because my players are getting stronger. I want to focus on something with an affliction because I don't have a lot of interesting monsters with affliction abilities that are strong enough, so let's go with a giant tsetse fly! My target CER today is 60, which is stronger than my usual target of 30. Let's get cracking.

CER: Howling Tunnels Characters

A map?!
So, Ironemblem has a tumblr account where he's put together stats for a bunch of monsters. I like the monsters, but I also really like CER so I can gauge monster strength at a glance. So I asked, and he said it was fine to figure out the CER values for his monsters, so here you go.

Encounter: Dire Pelican

So, I'm doing some research for a dungeon, and I need some monstrous pelicans; giant monstrous
Dalmatian Pelican,
largest breed of pelican
pelicans. You know, according to the wikipedia article, they were believed to stab their own breast to feed their young if they couldn't catch fish for them? Weird. In any case, let me see if I can come up with something that will work for a campaign I'm developing for, and a target of, let's say, 50 CER.

CER: Some Empty Vessels

GIS  for "Generic Thug"
So, this might seem like a bit of a bare bones post, but I just had this thought that it might be useful to have some instances of the thug archetypes  My goal is to use some advice from How to Be a GURPS GM that I found for some basic martial builds, and create a very basic shell, to which someone might apply a racial template for diversity. The challenge is to make the characters fit into 20 CER, and I hope to hit the mark exactly, so let's see how that goes.

Encounter: Unchi

It's been done before. I'm not
weird.
My girlfriend's nephew visited and was watching and rolling dice for us while playing GURPS, and making things out of play-doh to put on the mat as obstacles. His favorite was when Sophie decided to burn poop to keep the cart warm, so he found the fire legos and rolled up some blue play-doh, and made a big burning pile. This is the highest brow form of comedy. This is a tribute to him.

Yawn
IT'S MY... BIRTHDAY!
I LOVE BIRTHDAY PARTIES!
CAKES! PRESENTS!
Today's my birthday, so let's be wacky. Cake monsters! Puns! I mean, this stuff writes itself, probably!
Let's see what we can come up with!

Encounter: Blood Soaked Hag and Her Pets

Surf's up, friend!
This is a concept thought up by +Tallor Daniels, which, he tells me, he gets this idea in turn from One Punch Man. It sounds interesting, and complicated, but also pretty modular.
Sorry; I'm already talking about it without saying what it is.
"It" as it so happens, is a witch who has a swarm of friends who absorb life from enemies, and using this life force, casts magic. Let's look at ways to put this together.

Encounter: Giant Killer Frog!

Heheheheheheh
This is a quickie, but it folds into my concept of building up a few monsters for the next Five Room Dungeon. Basically, I'm gonna use the scaling rules from GURPS: Fantasy combined with this guy right here. Let's see what we get.

Encounter: Blurd

It's Real (2spooky)
So, fantasy, right? We can do anything, right? Well, how about a Blurd? This is a supremely clever portmanteau of "blur" and "bird". This bird has the power to blur fine details in reality, granting temporary disadvantages that involve your tinier organs and limbs.
Let's stat this guy out.

Encounter: Shambling Grass

It said to give credit, so look at the
attribution at the end of this post.
I haven't done a lot of swarm enemies yet, so I think to myself, maybe it is time to do just that. I recently thought of a field of grass that is living, I guess you could think of it as somewhat similar to Blade Grass from Mirror of the Fire Demon, but the mechanics here are much different. I'm thinking a fields-wide swarm of grass that can attack. Let's see what that might look like in GURPS terms.

Encounter: (Inspired by) Violent Roach

Hi... friend!
Earthbound, right? It has some funky enemies that might make some good fodder for some creative mangling. There's kind of an issue, however, when it comes to porting console JRPGs to GURPS; that is that enemies just don't make sense in a consistent way. This means there is usually no magic formula to take an enemy out of a game and put it into another. In any case, let's putz around anyway and see what we come up with for one of these interesting enemies anyways.

Encounter: The Dream Eater Baku

Sleep tight, buddy!
Almost all of the encounters so far in the affliction series have been pranksters at best, antagonistic at worst, and this time, I wanted to something different for the last in the series. The baku is a mythological creature from East Asia, with legends in China and Japan in particular. If a child wakes from a nightmare, it can call for the baku's help, who will then eat the nightmares and allow the child to go back to bed peacefully. Today's afflictions are Sleep and Unconsciousness.
